HOUSE OF ASTERION
USE: Residential
TYPE: Conceptual
LOCATION: Fort Worth, Texas
This house is inspired by Jorge Luis Borges’ short story The House of Asterion, in which the narrator, Asterion, describes his house as being “the same size as the world; rather, it is the world.”
The project reflects the widespread perception in the United States that a single-family home should be increasingly larger. At approximately 1,500 square feet, the repetitive structure frames a series of exterior spaces, while extensive use of glass blurs the distinction between interior and exterior.
Though modest in size, the house uses nature, transparency, and repetition to create a sense of expansiveness — challenging the idea that a larger home necessarily provides a greater sense of space.
