The Historic Northside District is one of Fort Worth’s most enduring neighborhoods — a place where generations of Latino families have lived, worked, and shaped the city’s identity. The district’s roots stretch back to the early 20th century, when Mexican and Mexican American residents built homes near the Stockyards and established the churches, schools, and businesses that still define the area today.
Over decades of change — from segregation to urban renewal to the pressures of recent redevelopment — the Northside community has remained anchored by its cultural pride, faith, and social networks. The neighborhood’s festivals, murals, family-owned shops, and community spaces testify to a continuity of presence that few urban districts in Texas can claim.
The purpose of these guidelines is to protect and enhance that living heritage: to ensure that as the Main Street Corridor grows, it continues to serve the people who have long called the Northside home.
