Mexico City is not a silent city. It is constructed through voices — pregónes, music, conversation, and the persistent calls of street vendors moving through its streets. These sounds form an invisible infrastructure, carrying culture, labor, and memory through the public realm. Ciudad de Sonidos makes this acoustic landscape spatial.
A lightweight framework supports a field of sound nodes broadcasting recordings drawn from the city: sonidero rhythms, Indigenous languages, market calls, and ambient noise. As visitors move through the pavilion, sounds overlap, collide, and recombine, creating shifting sonic territories without hierarchy or center.
The acoustic cones are covered with recycled plastic bags — materials embedded in the city’s economies of exchange and survival. Suspended overhead, they filter light and air while adding their own subtle rustling to the soundscape.
