Inspired by the barns found across the Texas landscape, Barn House sits on a 2.5-acre rural site outside of Terrell in Kaufman County.
Designed for a young immigrant family of three, the project reinterprets Kahn’s question beyond the city: What might a child discover in the Texas landscape that could shape who he becomes?
Here, the vastness of the Texas sky and surrounding landscape become the architecture’s context for wonder and possibility. The house is conceived as a frame for that experience, connecting the family to the land through expansive glazing and a rooftop deck that opens to the night sky. In place of the city, the landscape becomes the place where one can look outward, wonder, and dream.
